Bonjour à tous.
Voilà je viens d'acheter un portable pour faire du "ubuntu only", en ayant marre de Win***.
C'est un ASUS F3 Series avec une carte graphique NVidia GeForce 8400 M G - 128 MB.
J'ai déja eu toutes les peines du mondes pour installer la version ubuntu 7.04(avec le live cd il avait du mal à reconnaître mon disque dur SATA 2 )

Bref, j'installe l'alternate CD et là ça fonctionne... jusqu'au moment où j'arrive à la configuration du server X-Xorg. j'ai un écran 15,4'' avec donc du 1280 * 800.
Déja cette résolution n'est pas cochée, je la coche en plus de 1024 * 768 etc...
La barre de progression suivante reste figée à 6% pendant 20 minutes puis le reste de l'installation continue.
Quand Ubuntu est complètement installé et qu'il démarre, j'arrive en mode console car il me dit que X n'a pas pu démarrer etc...

Je viens de remarquer que le fichier

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

est vide.
Si je fait un

startx

j'ai la réponse :

je suppose que le problème vient du fait que le fichier est déja vide...

Comment cela se fait-il et surtout comment faire ??

En fait ton écran n'est pas detecté car il l'est normalement dans le fichier Xorg, donc l'affichage graphique ne démarre pas car pour linux tu n'a pas d'écran .

Mais comment y remédier, ça je sais, tu lance ton editeur de texte en console préféré(pour moi VIM) et tu configure manuellement tes périphériques dans le fichier :/etc/X11/xorg.conf

il faut aller jouer dans les X config....

Il faut chercher sur le net les bonnes fréquences de balayage de ton écran pour cette résolution, et ajouter les lignes correspondantes.

Sinon normalement, à l'install on te l'a demandé. Et aussi sinon dans les répertoires X il doit y avoir Xconfig quelque part...

Le fichier de configuration Xorg est normalement : ici /etc/X11/xorg.conf
si tu regarde le fichier il est divisé en sections, qui en gros sont celles là :
ServerLayout : décrivant les périphériques d’entrée et de sortie utilisés. InputDevice : décrivant les périphériques d’entrée (comme la souris, le clavier ...)
Monitor : décrivant les moniteurs.
Device : décrivant les cartes graphiques.
Screen : décrivant les écrans. -> c'est là que l'erreur à du se produire...

Les fréquences horizontales et verticales ne sont pas définis....

Oups j'aurais du mal !! car je débute sous linux... alors mettre ça sur une clé USB en mode console....
j'ai toutefois regardé que plusieurs forums et je ne vois pas de fréquences non plus chez les autres dans la section SCREEN.

Pas besoin de clé USB, tu prends même un CD puis un petit coup de mount et hop...
Mais si tu tien à ta clé usb :

ensuite tu enléve la clé USB tu la branche sur l'autre odri et là magi magi....

Pour la fréquence, elle doit être défini horizontalement et verticalement dans la section SCREEN avec les variables

Voilà je viens de mettre ma clé, je vais donc bien dans /mnt/ mais là c'est vide....

Pourtant quand je plug, il me trouve bien "sdb"

Si je vais dans media , j'ai juste cdrom et cdrom0

Une idée pour reconnaître la clé et pouvoir mettre le fichier dessus?

C'est un problème auquel un linuxien/windowsien est souvent confronté mais heuresement des logiciels sont là pour ça moi j'en utilise un pour du ext2 mais ça ne pose pas de problème pour du ext3, tu le télécharge ici :
http://www.fs-driver.org/download/Ext2IFS_1_10c.exe
tu l'installe(en étant administrateur)et ensuite tu lis les données de ta clé

Merci mais j'ai trouvé la syntaxe pour le FAT :

mkfs -t vfat -I /dev/sdb

et ça fonctionne.

J'ai donc pu transférer mon xorg.conf que voici :

Ah ton disque est en FAT je croyais que c'étais du NTFS.
Tant mieu pour toi.

Autre chose : en mode console j'ai des caractères très bizarres pour tous les caractères accentués.

Ca au moin c'est normale
Car dans la vrai consoel(failsafe) les caractères sont accentués.

Bon alors à l'attaque , déjà en cas de conneries note ça quelque part :

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

C'est la formule pour reconfigurer ton fichier comme il est maintenant.
tu notes ça dans un fichier ou sur une feuille à l'abris.

Déjà enléve les accents des identifiants car n'étant pas reconnu ils peuvent mener a des comportements indeterminés.

J'ai modifié tout comme tu me l'a demandé.
Une fichier n'est pas existant :

FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic"

Les autres sont présents.
Dès que je lance startx, rien ne se lance comme tantot...
erreurs:

(EE) NV(0) : Specified depth (1666666) is greater than 32
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error :
no screens found

As-tu une idée?

Ok remet les Depht d'avant parce que là ils sont tous à 16 et ça à l'air de le gener.
Remet le tout à defaut avec :

Sélectionner tout - Visualiser dans une fenêtre à part

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Ensuite relance et donne moi les erreurs.
