Salut à tous

J'ai une install complete Oracle 9i et AS10g sur un PIV E 3.0Ghz OS Windows 2000pro et tout tourne correctement (ouf )

Comme vous le savez peut etre, l'hyperthreading est cette technologie Intel permettant a un CPU mono-core de faire "croire" à l'OS qu'il s'agit en fait d'un dual-core.

Le problème est qu'on a constaté que dans certaines utilisations sous Windows 2000 pro que l'activation de ce fameux hyperthreading faisait perdre des performances car le scheduler permettant a l'OS de distribuer les différents thread aux différents core n'était pas adapté.

Je voulais savoir si vous aviez eu des échos comme quoi il vaudrait mieux désactiver l'HT dans un cas comme le mien ou si cela ne change pas grand chose?

Oracle and Hyperthreading

Oracle will work just fine on any O/S that is running and recognizes a
hyper-threading enabled system. In addition, it will take advantage of
the logical CPUs to their fullest extent (assuming the O/S reports that
it recognizes that hyper-threading is enabled). It is also a supported
configuration...any issues should be logged as bugs. All Oracle versions
can take advantage of hyper-threading, since no support code has been
added for it, all the changes were in the O/S, the bios and the hardware.
When Oracle asks the O/S how many CPUs are in the system, the O/S
just reports the total number of logical CPUs and Oracle doesn't know the
difference.

Ok c'est cool, visiblement c'est avec les tache mono-thread que windows 2000 a des problemes quand l'HT est activé.

100% CPU Utilization and Extremely Slow performance

We have IBM eServer xSeries 235, Two 2.4Ghz Xeon hyperthreading, 6GB memory. However when we turn on /PAE and /3GB and set SGA to 1GB, 2GB, 3GB and 4GB we face CPU 100% usage after around 40 sessions coming in. The machine was almost hang, we had to shutdown oracle instance.

There are interesting issues to overcome when you are running with more than 4GB on a Windows box.

First, you *must* have RAM that is evenly divisible by 4GB. That is, you must have 4, 8, 12, 16 GB of RAM. With the 6GB you have, you are not accessing the upper 2GB. (I don't remember where I read this, and I can't find it on this site, but I seem to recall that I ran into this problem)

This is a limitation of the PAE driver - it has to allocate exactly 4GB, and it allocates it at 4GB partitions.

In addition, the PAE partitions can *only* contain database buffers (USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS=TRUE). The rest of your SGA must reside in the lower 3GB process. This limits your shared-pool and number of logins.

Refer to note 225349.1. It has very detailed instructions on how to setup your database to access the extended memory on Windows, and how to tweak the OS for best performance/memory trade-off.

Ha tiens merci pour les détails supplémentaires. Je suis actuellement avec seulemetn 1Go de ram, bientot on passe a 2Go (les soucis financier de mon boss ne sont pas ceux de mon serveur malheureusement) Le nombre de session ne devrait pas dépasser 5 ou 6 a la fois donc ca devrait aller, jusqu'a présent je n'ai pas vu de 100% cpu usage, ouf
