    Par défaut Besoin de quelques explications concernant un plan d'exécution (colonne Starts)
    Bonjour,

    Voici le plan d'exécution d'une requête SQL générée par un progiciel.
    Evidemment, cette requête est assez indigeste et j'aurais donc besoin d'aide pour comprendre une chose qui m'échappe pour le moment.

    Je l'ai d'ailleurs scinder en 2 messages car la requête et le plan d'exécution (complet) dépasse les 100000 caractères

    On constate sur le plan que certaines opérations ont été exécutées 47782 fois (colonne Start pour les opérations 34,35,etc...)
    La colonne A-Time (actual) nous indique que ces opérations sont responsables de l'importante durée d'exécution de la requête

    Si quelqu'un peut m'expliquer pourquoi ces opérations ont été exécutées 47782, je suis "preneur"

    En ne jetant qu'un coup d'oeuil rapide (le plan est un peu long...) Ces 47782 Starts sont sous un filter. Toutes ces requêtes 'in ( distinct ...)' sont exécutées pour chaques lignes (ou presque).

    Je vous remercie pour votre réponse.

    En fait, il s'agit d'une requête qui est générée par un progiciel utilisant l'ORM HIBERNATE et cela me semble donc provenir de CRITERIA API. D'où le coté "inhumain" de cette requête.
    Cette requête est extraite d'un calcul de montant, etc...

    Le client a bien du mal à comprendre qu'il n'est pas simple d'optimiser ce genre de chose car comme souvent, il pense que nous disposons de paramètres "magiques" qui rendront par miracle la requête instantanée.
    Dans un premier temps, j'ai vérifié les cardinalités et cela me semble OK, le CBO a donc toutes les bonnes infos pour son travail.
    Puis, j'ai essayé de "comprendre" la stratégie du CBO pour le plan d'exécution de façon à voir si par hasard je ne tombais pas sur un bug du CBO en particulier au niveau des opérations CONNECT BY WITH...
    Mais là j'avoue que je coince car la requête est très alambiquée. De plus il y a beaucoup de OR EXPANSION et cela devient donc trop complexe. Et je n'aime pas "deviner" car on se perd ainsi.

    J'essaie donc de faire comprendre au client qu'il serait plus productif de "réécrire" ce bout de code qui ne fait finalement que du calcul d’agrégat en utilisant de plus de la procédure stockée mais ce n'est pas évident car comme souvent, on a affaire aux mêmes arguments des dogmatiques JAVA qui veulent tout mettre dans le serveur d'application et qui surtout ne veulent pas considérer la base de données comme autre chose qu'une boite noire.

    Donc parallèlement, je tente de faire accepter l'idée d'une POC reprenant ce calcul de montant au travers d'une procédure stockée mais il semblerait que même les développeurs ont du mal à expliciter clairement l’algorithme. Par le passé, il m'est déjà arrivé de connaitre ce genre de situation et le client était alors très surpris de voir le calcul passer de plusieurs heures à quelques minutes (voir secondes) le plongeant alors dans un "doute" important quant aux choix qui avaient été dictés par le "dogme".

    Finalement, je considère cette requête comme un bon cas d'école et armé du livre de Christian Antognini, j'essaie de comprendre, ce qui ne me peut pas me faire de mal.

    Vous avez déjà un bon exemple d'écart des cardinalités et temps d'exécution estimés par rapport au réel. Pourquoi l'optimiseur se trompe-il ? Est-ce que du à la présence des variables de liaisons qui rend inopérables les (éventuels) histogrammes exposant des distributions des valeurs non-uniformes ?

    Les Or expansions correspondent aux divers clauses Or de votre requête comme dans l'exemple. Si je ne m'abuse pas il "récrit" la requête via des UNION donc rien de spécial.

    Question naïve, mais rasoir d'Ockham oblige.

    Les statistiques de vos tables sont-elles bien à jour, et y a t-il une stratégie de recalcul régulier ?
    J'ai déjà vu des plans d'exécution passer de "Nested Loops" à "Hash Join" après un simple recalcul de stats, d'où la question.

    (mnitu) Oui il semble effectivement qu'il y ait quelques erreurs de cardinalité (Starts * E-Rows <> A-Rows) mais qui ne portent pas sur les opérations les plus "coûteuses", donc je n'avais pas "tilté" dessus

    Je regarderai donc cela quand je pourrais de nouveau me connecter sur la base client

    Concernant le calcul des statistiques, elles étaient à jour quand j'ai réalisé la trace. J'avais bien vérifié les cardinalités des quelques tables impliquées

    Je vous remercie pour vos réponses et quand je reviendrai sur ce dossier, je ferai un retour si je trouve quelque chose de concluant
