Serveur qui devient très lent : décryptage de logs

Bonjour,

il m'est arrivé quelque chose d'étrange hier vers 15h20. Sans aucun signe avant coureur et sans aucune augmentation du nombre de visiteurs, mon serveur (Debian etch) s'est subitement mis à ralentir au point que le moindre chargement de page mettait entre 25 et 45 minutes à aboutir (pas de timeout, ça moulinait). Plus de ftp.
Pareil pour les mails : le serveur envoie des rapports toutes les heures. Celui de 15 heures est arrivé à 15h33.

Je ne sais pas ce qui s'est passé, mais voici le rapport d'incident du kernel délivré par Logwatch ce matin :

Je ne saisis pas bien ce qui a pu se passer (apparemment un dépassement de mémoire, mais pourquoi et où ?). C'est pourquoi je vous demande votre aide

Je dispose aussi du rapport envoyé par Logcheck retraçant l'activité de 15h à 16h, mais la limite autorisée des messages sur le forum est dépassée si je le poste. Je le met le rapport dans mon prochain message.

Au terme de cette période, le serveur s'est tout d'un coup mis à réagir normalement. Je ne sais pas pourquoi et ça m'inquiète.
