I'm not sure if ANY of my books have been translated to French. But one
thing that I have been doing is making agreements with individuals who are
interested in translating the electronic version of the book to their native
language. The benefit is that they can then post the electronic version on
their web site, generating traffic to the site and potentially gaining
consulting or other work. This also provides a stimulation for the
translation to be printed, since the work is essentially already done (and
probably reviewed extensively by the readers of the electronic version).
However, there's no guarantee that if you were to do the translation that
the publisher wouldn't go to a completely differently party and commission a
translation from scratch. It would be crazy, in my opinion, but I don't have
any control over the non-US publishers and so couldn't prevent them from
doing something that didn't make sense.
