Problème cache squid

Bonjour,
je viens tout juste de configurer un serveur proxy avec squid qui démarre bien. Mon grand souci, c'est qu'apparemment celui ci joue le rôle de gateway alors que je voudrais qu'il enregistre les pages fréquemment visitées. Aucune amélioration au niveau du téléchargement du contenu web n'a été constaté.

Veuillez bien m'indiquer par quel moyen je peux vérifier si réellement la cache fonctionne. Je tiens à signaler que la taille du répertoire cache (/var/spool/squid) croît très faiblement.
