    Par défaut Quand valgrind ne sait plus faire
    Bonjour,

    Alors voilà, je bosse actuellement sur un logiciel qui à en charge l'automatisation d'une retroconception d'une base de données. Et (je pose tout de suite les bases) l'application fonctionne. Cependant, comme c'est dans le cadre d'un stage j'aimerais faire les choses bien et je suis donc à la recherche d’éventuelles fuites de mémoires.

    Pour ça, j'utilise valgrind que l'on m'as conseillé (et que j'ai adopté) sur le chat de dvpt.com

    Jusqu'à l’intégration de libiconv je n'ai eu aucun soucis pour utilisé valgrind, mais depuis valgrind cesse de fonctionner sans me donner ni de message d'erreur ni les statistiques d'utilisation mémoire que je lui demande.

    Quelques info de base, si vous avez besoin d'autre choses, n’hésitez pas a me demander, il n'y a rien de secret dans mon projet.

    Voilà, je ne sais pas trop ou cherché pour pouvoir me servir de valgrind a nouveau, c'est pourtant un très bon outils pour le debbugage et le profillage d'application (et très puissant et intuitif lors qu’utilisé avec callgrind)

    Bon, après mes recherches du jour, il s’avère que valgrind ne fonctionne pas avec l'option -pg, j'ai donc suprimé cette option de ma compilation, mais cela ne change en rien le résultat de valgrind, il reste toujours aussi muet

    Après 2 jours de déprime, j'ai enfin isolé la raison du plantage de valgrind.

    Mon application est de base très gourmande en ressource (notamment en ram), du coup l'utilisation de valgrind dessus causait un appel à OOM Killer qui a son tour envoi un kill -9 a destination de mon application.

    Donc si jamais vous passez par là en recherche de solutions, 2 choses a vérifier :
    La consommation des ressources physique via top/htop
    Les log dans /var/log/message, si vous voyez un appel à oom killer, ne cherchez pas plus loin (un moyen pratique et de faire un
    sudo tail -f /var/log/message
    cela vous permettra de suivre l’évolution du log pendant l’exécution de votre programme)

    J'essaie de revenir pour vous donner un fix pour la gestion de la mémoire ou au moins des pistes pour la suite.

    Bon, comme promis, je reviens vers vous avec quelques éléments pouvant vous débloquez si vous faites face au même problème que moi.

    Dans mon cas, la solution à était d'augmenter la taille du cache (initialement < 500 Mo sur ma VM)

    Si vous etes, comme moi sur une VM Virtual box, la 1ere étape est d'augmenter la taille du disque.

    ATTETION ! Avant d'effectuer ces manipes faites une sauvegarde de votre fichier VDI afin de ne pas tout perdre en cas du bug
    cd C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox
    VBoxManage modifyhd --resize 30000 C:\Users\VOTRENOM\VirtualBox VMs\VOTREVM\VOTREVM.vdi
    30000 représente ~30Go, veillez a ce que la dimension finale soit plus grande que l'initiale. L'espace libérer va nous servir a faire une seconde partition de swap.

    Lançons notre VM

    Utilisez votre outils favori pour formaté la nouvelle partition en swap (une interface graphique sera parfaite)
    Ouvrez un terminal puis :
    sudo mkswap /dev/sdXX
    sudo swapon /dev/sdXX
    Le swap supplémentaire devrais vous permettre de finir votre évaluation de valgrind et d'avoir vos résultats.

    (Pour ceux qui ont un partition suffisamment entendu initialement, ou fonctionnant sur une machine physique, cherchez du coté des swap file qui permettent de ne pas avoir a modifier la table des partitions
